a portrait of the artist as a young man

I set my son up with a small cup of water, a brush and a watercolor set so that he could create while I packed boxes and attended to the business of decluttering in preparation for putting our home on the market. In the artists eye, lines become people, trees, houses, words…all the while remaining lines. Is art in the eye of the beholder or defined by the eye of the artist himself? As someone who rather likes order over chaos, I found myself struggling not to tell him how to paint, making every effort not to scold him for mixing his colors…attempting to foster pure creativity vs. my version of how to draw a tree.
