20three took the time to do this, figured I might as well. . .in lieu of some sort of ‘07 recap, although some of these items are kind of recappy in a sense, relating to discoveries I’ve made this year about myself.

Spent most of the morning/early afternoon assisting my father in removing the cabinet/cooktop where the oven will be installed on Friday, so I’m a bit out of sorts. Looking forward to a quiet evening of good food, good wine and good friends over at Mike & Karen’s to ring in the new year.

List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.

1. I don’t know my right from my left very well. I blame this on the fact that I was never tought right from left. In spite of this, I have an amazing internal compass and sense of direction.

2. I hold onto the idea of moving back to the south at some point in my life, but don’t see it happening any time in the near future. I think I need the slower pace to counteract the speed of my brain.

3. I really enjoy the process of preparing a meal, specifically preparing the mise en place. Having all of the pieces in place prior to beginning the cooking process really makes the entire experience more zen.

4. I’ve gotten into hip-hop of a pop nature a lot recently. I think I enjoy the happy beats. They make me bounce.

5. I enjoy driving. A lot. I don’t enjoy being a passenger (unless I’m not in any condition to drive)

6. Discovering yoga over the past year has balanced me out tremendously. I don’t think it’s slowed me down any, but dedicating the time to yoga practice gives me reason to pause at least once a week and let it all go.

7. I’ve recently rediscovered the joy of eye makeup, specifically eyeshadow. . .and how it can really complete a look. I’m not talking about getting all made up, just accentuating. Strange considering I’ve never been all that into makeup/beauty routines.

Feel free to make your own little list.

Happy New year,
me

Dear Atlanta Falcons:
Thank you for ending the season on a positive note. When I said, at the beginning of the season, that it couldn’t possibly be worse than the 2003 season (when Vick was injured in a preseason game and you ended the season 5-11) I didn’t exactly put that out there as a challenge to make it worse. . .but you proved me wrong, finishing 4-12. In any event, thank you for beating the Seahawks today, in the Georgia Dome, with pride. I appreciated watching you play today. . .because the rest of the season has been rather unpleasant. Let’s hope 2008 will be better (don’t even try to go 3-13 on me. . .I don’t know if I can handle it)
Sincerely,
Your admiring and loyal out of state fan.

Dear Washington Redskins:
Thank you for ending the season on a really positive note. Heck, your season isn’t really over, as you get to face the Seahawks in Seattle next week. I hope for your sake that you’re playing with as much intensity and emotion as you were today and that they are playing like they played Atlanta today. . .But seriously, thanks for making my home a happy one this season. I know how much moosebraying enjoys a good Skins win and I’m sure that he and thebrowncoat thoroughly enjoyed their rainsoaked victory this evening. . .Its heartwarming to watch a team rally around a tragedy, pick up the pieces and carry on in such a way as to make it to the post season. May your hearts take you far.
Sincerely,
Your resident Falcons/Skins fan.

Dear New England Patriots:
Please don’t go to the Superbowl and win. I don’t think I can handle any more smugness than y’all dished up during post game press conferences this year. I get it. You’re good. Another level of football. But do you have to be such asses about it? I suppose I’m just bitter because my team sucked this year, but I’m thankful that we didn’t have to play you, because I’m sure the score in that game would’ve been 100-3.
Good luck in the post season,
Sincerely,
me.

My Christmas present was delivered to the house around noon yesterday.
YAY!
So, for the next week, we’ve got a beautiful gas range sitting in the living room where the Christmas tree once was (I de-Christmassed the house Thursday evening and yesterday morning)
Immediately following the delivery of the oven, I was shutting the storm door (releasing the little metal tabs that help hold it open) when I fell and twisted my ankle. I’m just that talented. Fortunately I know how to fall and roll when you feel your ankle turning and so it’s not as bad as it could have been, but it’s still a bitch.
Here I was, home alone, lying flat on my back on the brick patio. . .luckily the delivery guys hadn’t pulled away yet and one of them came back, helped me up and brushed the sand off my back. . .
Let me tell you, it hurt considerably, heck, it still does hurt.
I don’t deal well with being slowed down. . .being told to rest. I had finished most of the house cleaning that I had wanted to get done yesterday, but not all of it. I had to drag myself up the stairs and let Miller out of the bedroom (where I put him when the delivery guys came). . .that wasn’t fun.
It didn’t swell too much and there’s minimal bruising, so, really, I’m lucky. I’m just a wee bit on the gimpy side, looking like I’m dragging a dead leg around when I walk. . .and realizing how this is going to hinder my exercise routine for a little. I was considering going for a run today:(. Guess that won’t be happening now.

Can’t wait for the installation next friday. My father will be coming over Monday to help cut the countertop out for the placement of the oven, so I’ll be without a cooktop for a few days. . .

back to resting on the couch and indulging in television:)

later days,
me
